Atlanta Welcomes Scofflaw Brewing Company

Atlanta's newest Brewery Scofflaw Brewing Co. has officially opened its doors for business. The highly anticipated brewery dives into the beverage world with a series of brew tours at its location on 1738 MacAurthur Boulevard to unveil the launch of its four craft beers. For over four years, owner Matt Shirah, and co-founder (and beer scientist) Travis Herman have been working like mad scientists to create the perfect line of craft beers. Matt who left behind his job in corporate America, partnered with Travis who left the pharmaceutical industry, both began to explore and experiment with brewing in the basement of Travis’s mother-in-law.

The basement housed one barrel for brewing which has now expanded into a 18,000 square-foot production facility with state of the art brewing equipment built by Matt and his team. With their creativity, hard work, business savvy and beer expertise they bring to the public these four amazing craft beers Basement IPA, Slim the Pale Ale, Sneaky Wheat, and Westside IPA.

Basement IPA, which is my favorite of the four beers we sampled, was developed in their underground basement hence the name. Its beer profile is described as an earthy citrusy IPA with a nice malty body that creates a sweet smooth finish. "Sneaky Wheat," my next favorite, is brewed from imperial American wheat, with a hint of orange and spice that has a rustic undertone. "Westside IPA" is their take on west coast flavor in honor of Travis who is California-bred but now calls Atlanta home. This IPA packs a powerful punch with piney hops and hint of caramel and citrus. Last but not least was "Slim the Pale Ale" its flavors offer a hoppy body with a splash of fruit that’s compliments the malt undertone. You can find these beers on tap at select bars and restaurants in the Atlanta Area. They are also rolling out more brewery tours and tastings events at local pubs and bars, so be on the lookout for more to come from Scofflaw Brewery.
